Framed by majestic mountains and a stunning coast, Nerja, on the eastern Costa del Sol, is a hikers' heaven: a perfect base for walking holidays in Spain.
Nerja, in Spain's Andalucia, is an old fishing village set in magnificent scenery 50 km east of Malaga. The towering mountain peaks, shaded valleys and tumbling streams of the wild, 40,662 sq hectare Parque Natural de las Sierras de Tejeda Almijara y Alhama sweep down to the outskirts of the town on three sides; on the fourth a chain of sandy, rock girt beaches, where fishermen haul up their traditional brightly painted boats, create some of the most stunning and unspoiled coastal views on the Costa del Sol.
Are you finding the UK winter cold, grey and damp? Why not head off to Nerja for some winter sun? With average maximum temperatures of 18°C in February and 20°C in March, it certainly sounds inviting. Nerja generally enjoys at least 300 sunny days per year, out of which 200 are virtually cloudless. Come and visit and see for yourself! Leave your hats and scarves behind and enjoy meals outside by the beach & sunny walks through the countryside.
Video shoot in Nerja
Irish musician Sharon Corr must have a head for heights recording her latest single on a clifftop, near Nerja.
The singer/songwriter spent a week recording a video for her new single Everybody’s got to Learn Sometimes’ around Andalucia.
As well as filming on the beach below Nerja’s famous Balcon de Europa, she sat at a piano on a cliff top above Maro.
She could also be spotted filming in the pretty mountain town of Frigiliana and at the Alhambra in Granada.
The ex-Corrs member revealed that it was a ‘A truly unforgettable experience!’.

For the first time, Nerja is flying four Blue Flags on its beaches this summer, two more than last year. In addition to Burriana, La Torrecilla, El Playazo and Maro beaches were all due to receive their flags at the end of June.
The flags are awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education, an independent non-profit organisation based in Denmark, which this year has given them to 634 Spanish beaches. The province of Málaga has 21, two fewer than last year, with Benajarafe gaining a flag while Algarrobo, Torrox and Málaga city each losing one. Caleta and Marina del Este marinas also have Blue Flags this summer.
